Abstract

Up to now our knowledge about suicidal behaviour in the elderly is not satisfying. The basic etiopathogenetic concepts of suicidality which have been developed for younger people - a concept of suicidal behaviour as a result of a crisis or mental illness - are also applied for elderly. The aim of suicide prevention is not an absolute ban of any suicidal thoughts or behaviour, the aim is to find a satisfying quality of life.
