Abstract

Trauma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Maximizing survival in trauma victims requires definitive care as soon as possible after injury and continuing high-quality care to improve long-term survival. Anesthesiologists have many skills essential to this process and have an important role to play in trauma care; however, the largest scope for reducing deaths from trauma lies in the prevention of trauma, and resources must be targeted at this and at trauma management.
