Abstract

In a 6-year catamnestic study we compared the course of depression with psychotic symptomes (n = 15) versus depression without these symptomes (n = 43) during an index episode with hospital treatment. There was no difference in the course of both types of depression but the risk of suicide especially during the first year after inpatient treatment was significantly higher in the psychotic depression group.
