Abstract

Many particularities distinguish the elderly depression from the younger adult's one. Its frequency is particularly high in hospitals and nursing homes. Its clinical signs can mimic those of other pathologies (somatic signs, cognitive symptoms, delusion,...), psychological states (normal bereavement, etc.) or normal ageing. Its treatment needs adapted antidepressant prescription, social support adaptation and careful outcome supervision. It has great hazards of death (caused by comorbidities, suicide,...), complications (relapses,...) and institutionalization.
