Abstract

The author discusses suicidal behaviour by drug intoxication. He analyzes 44 patients hospitalized in 1996 at the metabolic unit of the Medical Clinic, Faculty Hospital Motol after attempted suicide by medicaments. He pays attention to sex, age, education, family status, previous psychiatric morbidity, influence of alcohol and other characteristics. He compares the results with data in the literature. In the investigated group women predominate significantly over men. The most frequent motive of suicidal behaviour was a partnership conflict. As regards family status, single subjects followed by divorced subjects, are the highest risk group. An important influence is exerted by alcohol consumption.
