Abstract

The authors report on the original experience of the department of forensic medicine in Miami. This department which is responsible for a very big district (and in particular Dade County) in the extreme south of Florida, is original for more reasons than one. Its activities, which are many in quantity, and of a very high level qualitatively, the design of the new building, built pragmatically, the organisation and working of this department, the total scientific and professional independence of the pathologists, make it one of the most impressive in the USA.
