Abstract

To be gifted and talented does not necessarily mean to be happy and secure. Emotionally stressed bright youngsters have been receiving considerable attention as a population who may be vulnerable to suicide. However, to have a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon, it is necessary to view suicide from a sociocultural perspective. This article discusses suicide among talented students, focusing on the role of family, school, community and culture in suicide prevention. © 1998 A B Academic Publishers Printed in Great Britain.
