Abstract

Rehabilitation professionals working with individuals with visual impairments frequently encounter clients who display symptoms of depression. Thus, rehabilitation professionals must know how to distinguish among the various causes, types, combinations, and manifestations of depression as well as developing treatment plans that address both the symptoms and the causes of depression. This article describes depression associated with vision loss and depressive disorders likely to be present in rehabilitation settings and gives suggestions for recognizing symptoms of depression and developing strategies to manage depression.
