Abstract

After the definitive closure of Italian Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals (FPH) most detained patients have been relocated to other facilities. Aim of the study is to follow-up patients discharged from the FPH of Reggio Emilia by administering questionnaires to patients and healthcare professionals, surveying patients' discharge pathways, recurrence of violence, psychopathological conditions, treatment, and quality of life.

RESULTS show that the discharge to lower intensity care facilities is possible and appreciated by patients. There was no correlation between risk assessment ratings and surveyed outcomes. Some issues emerged, which need monitoring, such as the off label use of medication and the occurrence of two cases of suicide from the initial cohort of 63 patients. © Pensa MultiMedia Editore - ISSN.
