Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between the combination of toxic agents declared in the suicide attempt.

METHODology: Descriptive and inferential study involving a sample of 110 patients with a history of attempted suicide.

RESULTS: Females were predominant (70%); mean age of 29 years. 73% said Caucasians or brunette, more than half lived without marital interaction, 67.3% reported having a religion and a few years of study. The main agents used drugs were 50.9%, followed by pesticides 45.5%, and 42.7% used more than one agent. A relationship between the number of agents and the presence of depressive episode (p = 0.049) and harmful use of alcohol (p = 0.000).

CONCLUSION: drugs and pesticides, highlighting the "chumbinho" were the most used in the attempted suicide by poisoning. It was proven significant association between the amount of agents used and depressive episode and alcohol use. © 2017 Editora Cientifica Nacional Ltda. All rights reserved.
