Abstract

New systems to install more escalators per station are reviewed. Several publications present escalator capacity recommendations ranging from 9,600/hr to 10,700/hr for 48-in. escalators operating at a speed of 120 fpm. The recommended practical capacity would become 103 passengers per minute and the design value 90 passengers per minute, for 48-in. escalators operating at 120 fpm.
