Abstract

Sustainable traffic safety can only be achieved when the design of the road infrastructure forces the road user to a behaviour that is consistent with the environment. An integrated working method, including infrastructural provisions, traffic education and communication with residents is also involved in sustainable traffic systems. There is a need to develop sustainable safe traffic and transport systems, focussed on three old traffic components of people, vehicles and infrastructures. It is essential to harmonize the function, design and use of roads when considering their arrangement and layout.
