Abstract

Without giving a second thought, Sexual abuse of children is an area of concern which needs a lot of concerted efforts to tackle the issue. This article focusses on the detailed analysis of the four case studies depicting four different scenarios of sexual abuse of children in India. It provides a greater understanding of the dynamics between the abuser and the victim, as well as an insight into why certain types of child sexual abuse occur more frequently than others. Additionally, it helps to identify any factors that may have contributed to the abuse, such as family dynamics or environmental influences. By studying case studies with different scenarios, researchers can also gain a better understanding of how to best help victims and their families cope with and recover from traumatic experiences. The first case study was a clear example of how a small quarrel leads to a big revenge and how a family migrated from a small village to a big town becomes a victim of cultural change. The second case study is an example of increasing gruesome incest incidences in India and how a mother rejects her own child in order to preserve her family. The third case study is a direct example of discrimination between a boy child and a girl child prevalent in Indian families and how this discrimination leads to love and attention craving girl children being misused by their boyfriends. The fourth case study is an example of how underage girls are forced to work because of their family conditions and how they are being misled and misused by their superiors at workplace. The idea of this article is to give a holistic picture of few prominent types of sexual abuse of children prevalent in India which in turn helps focussing on developing the prevention strategies to reduce the likelihood of future abuse and the provision of providing support services for both victims and perpetrators in order to break the cycle of violence.
