Abstract

In order to scientifically describe and effectively predict mental fatigue, a mental fatigue risk model based on alertness energy is proposed. Firstly, by quantifying mental fatigue with energy and characterizing fatigue with alertness, alertness energy, alertness kinetic energy, and alertness potential energy were put forward to develop a alertness energy function. At the same time, supplemental function and consumption function of alertness energy were proposed, explaining that alertness could be supplemented during sleep and consumed while waking up, and then the formula was used to deduct the model with concrete expression of it being obtained. The results show that this model can describe mental fatigue mechanism and generation process more scientifically, thus providing a new calculation way for its prediction and prevention. © 2019 China Safety Science Journal.
