Abstract

During the operation of high-voltage locomotive disconnectors of railways, serious personal injuries may happen, and they were caused by high-voltage electric shock and high-altitude falling. In order to prevent these accidents, information control technologies such as network communication, iris recognition, interlocking control, computer programming, and big data processing were used. The mechanism of machine control and prevention of unsafe behaviors was studied. The unsafe behavior during the operation of disconnectors was identified by qualitative analysis, and the monitoring system was studied accordingly. The system involved five functional modules, including operating authorization, opening, verification of live parts, grounding protection, and closing. The design content of the modules covered all the points where unsafe behaviors may occur during the operation of disconnectors. Field practice verified that the system could eliminate the major personal safety hazards during the operation of disconnectors. These hazards were caused by simplified application processes, mismatched opening tracks, invalid verification of live parts, and closing without line withdrawal. The results show that the system can make operators wear protective equipment correctly and standardize the operation of disconnectors. As a result, the operation process will shift from human control to machine control. © 2022 China Safety Science Journal
