Abstract

To make a scientific and reasonable maintenance decision for pipeline, applicability for different methods for pipeline with corrosion defects was analyzed by means of estimated repair factor (ERF)-curves for different residual strength assessment methods. A concept of pipeline safety maintenance time was performed based on segmented corrosion rate calculation and boundary constraint conditions. Factors including detected depth, defects location and influence from other defects were adopted to assess acceptability of dent qualitatively. The residual strength for pipe with manufacturing defects was analyzed quantitatively by using ERF-curve of SHANNON. On this basis, maintenance decision-making criteria were set for different defects, thus a new safey maintenance decision-making technology was developed for pipeline. Finally, a specific pipeline was taken as example, with analyzing of its ILI data, the feasibility of the technology was verified. The result shows that the technology can be used to determine the safety maintenance time and maintenance response level for different defects of pipeline. © 2019 China Safety Science Journal.
