Abstract

In order to study impact of coal dust concentration on gas explosion, experiments were conducted in a self-built vertical pipeline with coal dust concentration of 25, 50, 100 and 200 g/ m3 and volume fraction of 9%. Then, change features of gas explosion pressure and flame propagation in explosion chamber and pipeline were analyzed. The results show that as coal dust concentration increases, mixed explosion pressure decreases. Explosion pressure in chambers and pipelines have different sensitivity to coal dust, with the former one being more sensitive to high-concentration coal dust while the latter more sensitive to low-concentration coal dust. It is also found that participation of coal dust can promote development of flames in chambers and pipelines, and an increase in its concentration mainly affects flame development in rear section of chambers, but can obviously promote flame development in pipelines which reaches the fastest as the concentration is 50 g/ m3 © 2020 China Safety Science Journal.
