Abstract

In order to address limitations of current behavior - based safety theory, theory development was reviewed, and a paradigm related to dual path in occupational health psychology was introduced. Then, dual path theory of safety impairment and motivation was proposed based on JD - R theory. The results show that behavior-based safety theory has undergone a series of evolutionary changes, listed as top-down - driven supervisory management, self - management based on peer monitoring and reciprocal management based on employee partnership. However, it can not last long and lacks sustainability. Its predictive and occupational psychology factors, which influence individual safety, can be divided into two aspects, namely generality related to occupational health psychology and particularity related to behavioral safety. Predictive factors can cause changes in individuals' occupational psychology, which further leads to occurrence of safety behavior and unsafe behavior. They contain two dimensions of resources and demands while occupational psychology includes both impairment and motivation. © 2020 China Safety Science Journal. All rights reserved.
