Abstract

In order to optimize protective performance of thermal protective clothing, a new type of thermal protective fabric system featuring temperature regulation function was made by applying fabrics coated with phase change microcapsule to system. Then, microcapsule suspension at four types of phase change temperature was selected to make coating at three phase change content, and coated fabric was prepared by using dry coating process. Finally, fundamental performance changes of fabric were tested, and thermal protective performance of fabric system was evaluated based on a hot contact test device. The results show that tensile properties and thermal conductivity of fabric increase after coating, and phase change enthalpy is positively correlated with content. Meanwhile, coating improves thermal protective performance significantly, and prolongs time for second-degree burn by 66% on average. In addition, its protective performance is closely linked with content of microcapsules, phase change temperature and enthalpy. © 2020 China Safety Science Journal. All rights reserved.
