Abstract

Understanding psychosocial sequelae of burn injury for both survivors and those who comprise their support system is of utmost importance and is well worthy of our research efforts. The impact of burn injury on sexual function, body image, and interpersonal relationships has been investigated,1-4 but there is room for further delineation to improve outcomes. Unfortunately, the article recently published by Eslamialiabadi et al. entitled "Iranian Men's Sexual Life Issues After Their Wives' Burn: A Qualitative Content Analysis Study"5 sorely misses the mark of what is needed in the literature. A couple of questions arose while reading this manuscript: (1) Why would the authors have chosen to study spouses' experiences without the context of the survivor perspective? (2) Why focus only on the male partners of female burn survivors? Surely there are female partners of male burn survivors in Iran. Had the authors opted to interview both burn victims and their partners, and had it been extended to both male and female burn-injured individuals, this effort may have provided valuable insight.
