Abstract

A coroner has given a warning about a rare side effect of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, after a recently retired consultant cardiologist with no history of mental health problems died by suicide 11 days after he began taking the drug.1

Robert Stevenson, described by the coroner Martin Fleming as a "very respected and experienced" consultant, retired from his job at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary in west Yorkshire in May 2022 at the age of 63.
