Abstract

An account is given of the aetiopathogenetic mechanisms responsible for Achilles tendon lesions, and a therapeutic approach based mainly on the use of repeated and protracted local cryotherapy for both acute and chronic tendinopathies is proposed. In addition, a minimally traumatic tenorrhaphy technique for the anatomofunctional repair of subcutaneous ruptures is described, which also avoids the risk of fascia-tendon adhesions. Support for the effectiveness of this technique is offered in the form of results obtained in the treatment of young athletes at the Sports Traumatology Centre, 'G.Pini' Orthopaedic Institute, Milan.
