Abstract

Pointing out that few studies have been made of the role that pyschotropic drugs play in traffic accidents, this brief article discusses the role of the World Health Organization in evaluating the safety and efficacy of drugs and in recommending controls when a threat to public health has been shown. Reference is made to a recent measure adopted in Norway to increase public awareness of drugs that are a hazard in combination with driving. Pharmacists are required to place red triangle labels on designated drugs to warn that medication so marked should not be taken when driving.
