Abstract

This report discusses driver's normal avoidance behavior to the crossing pedestrian systematically. Some factors which influence driver's avoidance behavior are picked up by observing real traffic situations. The factors which influence the behavior largely are selected by the driving simulator tests based on experimental design. It is clarified how each factor influences the behavior. The sequence of driver's avoidance behaviors is as follows. A driver releases the accelerator by predicting danger to the pedestrian. Then, a driver puts on the brake by judging danger. Finally a driver presses the accelerator by confirming departure from the lane.
