Abstract

A human body FE model representing a pregnant occupant has been developed based on the existing THUMS model. Using the model, the study conducted frontal impact simulations to compare the occupant motions with and without wearing the seatbelt. The results indicated that the loading to the occupant body could be mitigated by wearing the seatbelt. The model also showed smaller abdominal deformation when the seatbelt was located at the inferior abdomen.
