Abstract

"Drivers 'Guides to Hours of Service", announced by MLIT, sets out maximum driving hours, minimum break minutes, etc. to ensure drivers' safety and improve their working conditions. Paradoxically, compliance with the Guides had been a burden not only for the companies, but also for the individual drivers. With introduction of our new digital-tachograph, we have implemented a new operation system, which, enabling drivers self-management of operation, has brought major decline in incidences of drivers' incompliance with the Guides and cut the accident occurrence rate down to half, from 1.07 per month to 0.53 per month.
