Abstract

Because of transparency of ice, it is difficult to measure the profile of ice surface by optical method such as laser scanning. We propose the method that whitens the ice surface by rapid cooling spray so that stable reflecting laser beam on ice surface leads successful profile measurement. We conducted the full braking test on iced road of in-door tire tester at a temperature around 0℃. And we made a study on relationship between the resultant cross sectional profile of the ice surface damaged by tire treads and resultant frictional characteristics of the tire on the ice.

RESULTS shows that the friction of tire on ice has well correlation on cross section of the ice surface damaged by tire treads.
