Abstract

To overcome some of the drawbacks (such as brittleness and spot weld HAZ softening) of using AHSS for weight reduction, the strength distribution of the compressed side of a bend formed thin-walled box structure is studied in this paper by classifying different collapse modules in the ridgelines and flat plate portions. For the side under compression, an analysis model is examined and the ultimate resistance evaluations of the cross section are arrived at. Furthermore, in addition to the elastic buckling, the plastic buckling in the flat portions is discussed theoretically and an appropriate way of determining the ridgeline strength for strengthening the cross section is presented. A confirmation test and CAE simulation are developed to demonstrate the theoretical conclusions and provide reciprocal verification.
