Abstract

Suicide prevention programs in the public schools are controversial and thought to be increasing in number, despite the lack of hard evidence about their effectiveness.

FINDINGS from a telephone interview study of school districts claiming to offer a prevention program and a survey of school districts not offering a program in spite of incentives to do so are reported. The findings suggest that prevention program are not as comprehensive as often claimed.
