Abstract

In Japan, the number of the traffic fatal accidents in the night accounts for about half of the whole number of the traffic fatal accidents. In part because it is difficult for driver to recognize pedestrian in night-time. In order to reduce the fatal traffic accidents, it would be effective to improve the conspicuity of pedestrian. In this study, the change of the conspicuity of pedestrian by the illuminated area of the headlight was analyzed by subject experiment. We were able to clarify the conspicuity of pedestrian when the driver (36-57years old) looked at the pedestrian in night-time.
