Abstract

In this study, the authors explore the physical mechanisms associated with whiplash. They evaluate an activation controller and its resulting effects by using a finite element model of the human body with active muscles to determine head-neck responses during low-speed rear impacts. In the simulated low-speed rear impact test, the activated muscles generally maintained the head rotational angle toward the initial posture of the head-neck model.
