Abstract

In this study, the authors assess the performance of newly-developed vehicles and evaluate parameters for second row seat design. They conduct a physical sled test to assess current performance and dynamic testing of the second row seats to assess occupant injury. A parametric study is conducted to determine factors influencing excessive neck injury. The findings provide the basis for a design guide for the geometry and stiffness of seatback frames that will prevent occupant injury.
