Abstract

This report continues an examination of how driverless vehicles both fit into and challenge existing driving rules and suggests modifications of these rules for the good of the public. The authors examine criminal laws and the provisions of state vehicle codes that might require modifications to account for driverless vehicles' distinct characteristics. They discuss the potential impact driverless vehicles could have on police investigations and explore insurance challenges that may result from the relationship between driverless vehicles, insurers, manufacturers, and policymakers. The article also explores privacy and security laws that may impact the design and operation of driverless vehicles as well as legislative and regulatory issues.
