Abstract

Gun violence in the United States, from suicides to mass shootings, is a public health epidemic of which Americans are reminded almost daily. When people gather in public spaces, schools, work, places of worship, and at home, they should feel safe. Yet, research on gun violence shows that adults between the ages of 18 and 20 commit gun violence at 3 times the rate of those over the age of 21 Everytown 2022). More than 110 Americans are killed with guns, and over 200 are shot and wounded each day ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics 2020).
