Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the causes and background of violence in the light of the increasing incidence internationally of both group and interpersonal violence. The author classifies violence according to types and causes. Comparative statistics are quoted to illustrate the incidence of violence in the author's experience and in some other countries. Indications are that violence is multifactorial in aetiology and suggestions are made how the incidence of violence may be reduced.
