Abstract

Prevention means, primarily, promoting human conservation and lowering the risk of juvenile delinquency through interven tion directed at the pathogenic factors in children's biological, psychological, social, and cultural environments before the ap pearance of identifiable legal violation. The one social institu tion which deals with almost all children and which can accom plish this intervention is our public schools. The school social worker, using other school services and community resources, can help children with their emotional and behavioral problems. This article describes a program of school social work developed in Pinellas County, Fla., and its effect on delinquency rates in that area.
