Abstract

A massive explosion occurred before sunset on August 4, 2020, in the Port of Beriut, Lebanon, igniting previously stored some two-thousand tons of ammonium nitrate. The supersonic pressure wave led to the partial destruction of half the city's buildings, including major hospitals with an estimated 14 thousand casualties treated in the first 3 days.
