Abstract

Concepts derived from victimology may be useful in analyzing the role of the bystander who witnesses a criminal offense. The bystander may be perceived as harmed by the direct, physical effects of the offense, by the psychological consequences, and by his involvement in the criminal process. All three areas merit further analysis and research.
