Abstract

Taking an interest in the life and work of Marie Langer, an Austrian psychoanalyst, contemporary with Freud, exiled in Argentina and then in Mexico, amounts to exploring the internal power struggles of psychoanalytic institutions and the way in which they have been traversed by the politician. How to reconcile his passion for psychoanalysis with the social struggle? This is a question to which Marie Langer has devoted her life. For this Freudian psychoanalyst, Marxist and feminist activist, "the neutrality of the analyst does not exist" (Langer, 1973). At a time when discourse on "mental illness" is becoming normalized and infused everywhere, at a time when a technical, instrumental and economic model of psychic care is tending to take hold, at a time when restraint and isolation is becoming commonplace in psychiatric hospitals and where the status of speech is losing its value, it is more necessary than ever to question ourselves on the supposed "neutrality" of our work. Marie Langer questions this articulation, as difficult as it is necessary, between psychoanalysis and politics.

S'intéresser à la vie et à l'œuvre de Marie Langer, psychanalyste autrichienne, contemporaine de Freud, exilée en Argentine puis au Mexique, revient à parcourir les luttes de pouvoir intestines des institutions psychanalytiques et la manière dont ces dernières ont été traversées par le politique. Comment concilier sa passion pour la psychanalyse avec la lutte sociale ? Voilà une question à laquelle Marie Langer a consacré sa vie. Pour cette psychanalyste freudienne, militante marxiste et féministe, " la neutralité de l'analyste n'existe pas " (Langer, 1973). À l'heure où les discours sur la " maladie mentale " se normalisent et s'infusent partout, à l'heure où un modèle technique, instrumental et économique du soin psychique tend à s'installer, à l'heure où la contention et l'isolement se banalisent dans les hôpitaux psychiatriques et où le statut de la parole perd de sa valeur, nous interroger sur la supposée " neutralité " de notre travail s'avère plus que jamais nécessaire. Marie Langer questionne cette articulation, aussi difficile que nécessaire, entre psychanalyse et politique.
