Abstract

The 2002 paper by Coker and colleagues was one of the first national epidemiologic studies of intimate partner violence (IPV). Recognition of the long-term outcomes of IPV, as documented by this work, has helped to fuel scientific inquiry and further understanding of the fact that both men and women are victimized and that both genders experience long-term consequences.
