Abstract

Numerical wind tunnel was used to simulate the wind load on the wall of an industrial building during construction in Guang Dong Province and its wind-induced collapse mechanism was analyzed. Effects of opening on single wall to wind load were also discussed. The values of wind load for the structure's wind-resistance design and the relevant technical measures in construction process were presented. The numerical results show that the walls of building without roof suffer from wind forces on both inside and outside surfaces due to the partial opening. The inside surface of the wall is mainly loaded by suction. The net body shape coefficient of the windward wall is much more than that obtaincd by the Load Code for the Design of Building Structure. The wind load characteristics comprise one of the major reasons for the collapse of industrial buildings during construction.
