Abstract

The required strategies or tactics, and the initial size-up of different building types throughout the operation that should be done by a firefighter are discussed. The firefighters depends on the information to make tactical decisions throughout the operation. A few critical size-up and safety points that are most prevalent at fire include the advancement of a 2.5 inch line into an exposure to halt lateral fire extension in the cockloft, and a lazy smoke condition in pushing from the front display windows. A heavy smoke condition visible above the roof line means that either the roof firefighters have accomplished ventilation or that the fire has burned through the roof. Any fireground firefighter is required to report the conditions that would impact the other companies, and the successful outcome of the operation. The firefighters operating at the roof have cut a large ventilation hole over the fire, and the steel rolldown gates have been cut.
