Abstract

Engineers and builders create the infrastructure responsible for public health and quality of life. Construction is a rewarding occupation but it is also inherently dangerous and improved construction site safety is needed. Injuries and fatalities occur frequently on construction sites despite education, legislation and application of advanced risk management techniques. Past research has shown that accidents can be minimised to some extent. The primary purpose of this review is to evaluate the existing safety measures at sites and discuss the various safety measures that could be adopted in practice. Awareness of the hazards and diligent management of the risks can enhance the safety and profitability of construction activities.
