Abstract

The author describes how inadequate poisons legislation led, via a market stall, to the tragic deaths of some 20 people in Bradford in the middle of the 19th century. The event contributed to part of the Pharmacy Act 1868, which recognised the chemist and druggist as the custodian of named poisons.
