Abstract

A revised document of the 'Uses and Benefits of Sprinklers' entitled 'Sprinklers for Safety Uses and Benefits of Incorporating Sprinklers in Buildings and Structures' was amended by Arup Fire. The amended document is a non-biased view purposely improved to facilitate an informed decision to be made regarding the inclusion of sprinklers within buildings and structures. It examines and identifies life safety or legislative requirements for sprinklers and additional benefits and advantages gained from providing sprinklers. The revision tackles tradeoffs and alternative solutions, design fires where sprinklers are present, residential sprinklers, special applications, cost and benefits, sustainability and environmental benefits, common misconceptions and limitations concernign sprinklers.
