Abstract

The safety of liquid hydrogen is being considered more and more with its increasing use. The liquid hydrogen vaporization and pool spreading behaviors were discussed in this paper. Based on the discussions, the characteristics of possible physical and chemical explosions were analyzed. The most common physical explosions are boiling liquid expanding vapour explosion (BLEVE) and rapid phase transition (RPT) explosion. Chemical explosion is consisting of deflagration, fast deflagration, detonation, gas cloud et al. These researches can provide technical support for the safe use of liquid hydrogen.
