Abstract

It is now widely recognized that family violence and intimate partner violence (IPV) is prevalent, affecting 1 to 4 million women a year in the United States alone. Children and men are also victims of IPV. The consequences can be devastating and can affect both mental and physical health. The aims of this article are to review prevalence data, review mental and physical health consequences, and discuss screening and interventions appropriate to primary health care settings.
