Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out and examine the level of environmental attitude of outdoor recreation participants and outdoor sports that are exercising and/or being participants of mountaineering/rock climbing, cycling and trekking with comparing with some demographic variables (gender, marital status, age and education level) in Turkey. The Sampling group of this study consists of mountaineers/rock climbers (n=426, (X) over bar (age)=36.12 SD=10.10), cyclists (n=373, (X) over bar (age)=31.36 SD=9.73) and trekkers (n=382, (X) over bar (age)=39.92 SD=10.30). The number of mountaineers/rock climbers, cyclists and trekkers are not known in Turkey exactly. In this study, sampling has been applied and an electronic questionnaire form has been sent to all members of mountaineering and cyclist clubs bound to Turkish Mountaineering Federation and Turkish Cycling Federation. All the received survey answers (1181) have been assessed. In this study NEP scale was used which was developed by Dunlap, Turkish validity and reliability analysis of original form of NEP was made by Furman (1998), and revised form of NEP's Turkish reliability analysis was made by Erdogan (2009). In order to analysis the data, the descriptive statistics means such as frequency (f), percentage (%), average (M) and standard deviation (SD), and a series of ANOVA and t-tests were performed to compare the differences at all levels of independent variables. LSD methods of Post Hoc test is used to understand the direction of differences between groups.

RESULTS have been assessed according to significant level 0.05. As a result, this study presents that trekker's EA and NEP scores are lower then the other outdoor sports participants which is a result of their higher average age.
