Abstract

Paediatric Radiology has recently been in the mainstream media, with two articles discussing the diagnosis of abnormal radiological findings in suspected physical abuse (SPA). SPA (also known as child abuse or inflicted injury, previously known as non-accidental injury) is a challenging area in which to work, requiring great care and attention to detail in order to maximise the opportunity to get the correct initial diagnosis. There are clearly significant repercussions for the child and family in diagnostically "getting it wrong", beyond the immediate medical concerns.
