Abstract

The utility of the finite element (FE) method to predict isolated acetabular fracture and the relationship of acetabular fracture to loading rate was studied. A model of a 50th percentile human male hemi-pelvis was analyzed using the FE method. A comparison of experimental and FF results validated the performance of the method. Parametric FE studies showed that loading rate influences fracture prediction. Higher loading rates yielded pubic ramus fracture predictions, while lower loading rates yielded acetabular fracture predictions.
